106: Caring for the Dying Patient

Series Description:

 

 

 

 

 

This three-part series addresses the care needs of dying patients.  Using interviews with healthcare professionals and effective vignettes, the series addresses the various issues facing terminally ill patients and their families.  Included are effective pain management strategies; emotional support; family assessment and involvement; common symptoms of impending death; the role of the hospice team; giving bad news; addressing spiritual needs; and sensitivity to cultural feelings and rituals regarding death.  The information and scenarios address the special needs of all age groups including children and the elderly, as well as the impact on family dynamics and the siblings of terminally ill children, as well as the potential for exhaustion for family caregivers.  The various aspects of grief are also discussed.   Self-care for both professional and family caregivers is also addressed.

 

Educational Packet:

 

 

The educational packet includes: program descriptions, learning objectives, complete course outlines, discussion questions, post-viewing multiple-choice questions, blank answer sheets, glossary, appendixes, bliography and sign-in sheet.

 

Cost:

 

$30 for 3 contact hours (1 hour per program), payable by credit card (Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover Card). 

 

Process:

 

 

 

 

 

In order to earn the contact hours, participant must view the programs, study the accompanying written materials and successfully complete the included tests. A passing grade of 80% is required. Completed Answer Sheets and Sign-In Sheet with credit card information to must be mailed to:
